Queer Mediterranean Memories written by Joseph Carmel Chetcuti was launched today.
The book, which deals with the story of the Gay Community in Malta is considered controversial due to the fact that it identifies various public figures, for the first time publicly, as homosexuals.
In the book the author deals with the effects of certain Maltese laws on the homosexual community as well as how the Chruch views homosexuals and how homosexuals lived during the time homosexuality was considered a criminal act.
During the launch, Chetcuti showed antique pictures of homosexuals dating back to the 40s.
Gaby Calleja, from the Malta Gay Rights Movement, was also present and remarked that throughout history, minorities were variously excluded and described the book as a piece of contributory work to the Gay Community.
