In a meeting with the Malta Gay Rights Movement (MGRM), Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party said that it believes that there should be full equality in all aspects of social and family policy, irrespective of one’s sexual sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said: “AD has long believed in equality for all insocial and family rights. I am proud to announce that AD is endorsing MGRM’s position that as regards marriage equality. Equality can only materialise by having one institution for both different-sex and same-sex couples. Recognition of same-sex couples in marriage would lead to the strengthening of the concept of the family. More and more societies and political parties are increasingly recognizing this. Within the EU, the influence of the European Greens is of great importance for such progressive change".

“AD is also supporting MGRM's Gender Identity Act proposal, which callsexpedient legal gender recognition and for gender reassignment procedures under the national health care service. As regards the current IVF debate, AD believes that should be no form of discrimnation in access to this right. Hence, for example, one should not be discriminated against on the basis of one’s sexual orientation”.

Angele Deguara, AD Spokesperson for Social Policy and Civil Rights, said: "Nowadays the concept of family has changed significantly and consequently we believe that social policy and civil legislation should reflect family diversity and address the rights and obligations of individuals forming part of these different family types. Civil rights are one of the major pillars of AD's policy and we will continue working for social justice and equality."

"With regards to LGBT persons AD believes that there should be full equality between same-sex couples and heterosexual couples in every aspect of life. The state should give the same rights to same-sex couples as those given to heterosexual couples and should open the institution of civil marriage to same-sex couples. Regarding adoption, AD believes that there should be no discrimination on the basis of the sexual orientation and every case should be considered on its own merits. Gender minorities such as transgender persons should be protected against every form of discrimination and the Constitution should be amended to prohibit any form of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression."

Drittijiet ta’ persuni LGBT – AD favur Ugwaljanza Sħiħa

F’laqgha mal-Malta Gay Rights Movement (MGRM), Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party qalet li temmen li ghandu jkun hemm ugwaljanza shiha f’kull qasam tal-politika socjali u politika tal-familja, irrispettivament mill-orjentazzjoni sesswli, identita’ u espressjoni tal-generu tal-persuna.

Michael Briguglio, Chairperson, ta’ l-AD qal: “AD ilha temmen fl-ugwaljanza fid-drittijiet socjali u fid-drittijiet konnessi mal-familja. Kburi li qed inhabba li AD tappoggja l-pozizzjoni tal- MGRM f’dak li ghandu x’jaqsam ma’ ugwaljanza fiz-zwieg. F’dan il-kaz jista’ jkun hemm ugwaljanza biss jekk ikun hemm istituzzjoni wahda ghal kopji kemm tas-sess oppost kif ukoll ta’ l-istess sess. Rikonoxximent ta’ kopji ta’ l-istess sess fiz-zwieg twassal ghal tishih fil-kuncett tal-familja. Iktar u iktar socjetajiet qed jaghrfu dan. Fl-UE, l-influenza tal-Hodor hija ta’ importanza kbira ghal dan it-tibdil progressiv”.

“AD qed tappoggja wkoll il-Gender Identity Act propost mill-MGRM, li jsejjah ghalpossibilta' ta' bidla tal-generu legali tal-persuna minghir xkiel zejjed u proceduri ta’ gender reassignment taht il-servizz nazzjonali tas-sahha. F’dak li ghandu x’jaqsam mal-IVF, AD temmen li m’ghandu jkun hemm l-ebda forma ta’ diskriminazzjoni fl-access ghal dan id-dritt. Ghalhekk, per ezempju, hadd m’ghandu jigi diskriminata minhabba l-orjentazzjoni sesswali”.

Angele Deguara, Kelliema ta' AD ghall-Politika Socjali u Drittijiet Civili, qalet: "Illum il-gurnata il-kuncett ta' familja inbidel sostanzjalment u ghalhekk ahna nemmnu li l-polika socjali u l-ligijiet civili ghandhom jirriflettu din id-diversita u jindirizzaw id-drittijiet u l-obbligazzjonijiet li ghandhom l-individwi li jiffurmaw parti minn dawn it-tipi diversi ta' familja. Id-drittijiet civili huwa wiehed mill-pilastri ewlenin tal-politika ta' Alternattiva Demokratika and ahna ser inkomplu nahdmu ghall-gustizzja socjali u ghall-ugwaljanza".

"Rigward il-persuni LGBT, AD temmen li għandu jkun hemm ugwaljanza sħiħa bejn koppji tal-istess sess u koppji eterosesswali f’kull aspett tal-ħajja. L-istat għandu jagħti l-istess drittijiet lil koppji tal-istess sess bħal ma jagħti lil koppji eterosesswali, u jiftaħ l-istituzzjoni taż-żwieg ċivili għall-koppji tal-istess sess. Rigward l-adozzjoni, AD temmen li m'ghandux ikun hemm diskriminazzjoni fuq bazi tal-orjentazzjoni sesswali u kull kaz ghandu jigi ikkunsidrat fuq il-merti tieghu. Minoranzi bħal persuni transgeneru għandhom ikunu mħarsa minn kull diskriminazzjoni u ghandha tigi emendata l-Kostituzzjoni biex tigi ipprojbita kull forma ta' diskriminazzjoni fuq bazi ta' orjentazzjoni sesswali, identita' tal-generu u espressjoni tal-generu."
