Malta Star: Young people to excommunicate themselves from the Catholic Church

"The decision to baptize us was taken when we where babies, and we had no say over the matter- how we have the choice to rid ourselves from the Roman Catholic Church, and this is what we are doing"

This was said by the front man of a group of young people who are about to excommunicate themselves from the Catholic Church.

The group, 'Not in our name', is excommunicating itself from the Church took a stance on a number of issues such as homosexuality and contraceptives. In their opinion the Church's stance was immoral and repressive. The group also referred to the divorce referendum and stated that the Church's tactics during the campaign were disgusting.

'Not in our Name' also stated that they do not believe that 98% of Malta's citizens are roman catholic, and encouraged all those who have been baptized and feel they do not want to be part of the Church any more to join them.

They also appealed to the government to remove the reference to the roman catholic religion in Malta's constitution.

A meeting will be held on the 10th of July in Valletta for all those interested in joining the group.
