Updated - Adds video - Some 30 people from the River of Love Christian fellowship group waited outside Parliament this evening to present MPs with a 10,000 signature petition against gay adoptions.

The initiative was led by pastor Gordon-John Manche’ who said the petition was collected to give children a voice.

He said that 80 per cent of the people of Malta did not want the Bill on Civil Unions, which included a proviso allowing gay couples to adopt, to go ahead.

Moreover, the bill was proposing marriages not unions.

“Jesus Christ does not want this,” he said.

Some fellowship members held a banner reading Alla jhobb lil kulhadd imma ma jhobbx kollox (Jesus loves everyone but not everything).

The petition was presented to Government whip Carmelo Abela, Opposition whip David Agius and deputy speaker Censu Galea.

Meanwhile, supporters of the bill are collecting an online petition saying "equal rights are for everyone.

"God loves everyone, don't let anyone brain wash you! We live in the same world, no one has the right to take your rights away!

"We will fight for what is right and what is wrong!"

A total 1,300 signatures had been collected by 5.45pm.

  1. The total number of signatures on the counter-petition (in favour of same-gender civil unions) is now over 7,000. At least 10,000 are desired in order to balance the number (allegedly) collected by Gordon-John Manche.

If you click "online" in the report above, you can sign the counter-petition.

  2. "Jesus Christ does not want this" (Gordon-John Manche)

"The religious persecution of the ages has been done under what was claimed to be the command of God. I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do to their fellows, because it always coincides with their own desires" (Susan B. Anthony, 1820 - 1906)

  3. Manché is taking his instructions from US Evangelical overlords who are dictating the game plan for Malta, the same game plan they are using in many African states. For example, River of Love in Malta in June is hosting Terry Mize and his wife, who have been endorsed by the US 700 Club president Pat Robertson:

“Terry's first book, "More Than Conquerors" and Jackie's first book, "Supernatural Childbirth" were immediate best sellers. They have been frequent guests on numerous TV and radio programs over the years including PTL, TBN, 700 Club, Richard Roberts and others.

Terry serves on numerous missions boards and is a founding board member of both the International Convention of Faith Ministries (ICFM) and Victory World Missions Training Center (VWMTC) and is the Founder of Missions Training Center and More Than Conquerors Ministries, a.k.a. Terry Mize Ministries.”

In this way, Malta is just another foreign field where the US hatemongers and religious extremist can fight their culture wars, and the Maltese people are being manipulated by hate speech and right wing talking points spread by Mize, Robertson and other US evangelicals who, having lost the culture war in the US and Europe are going after vulnerable countries in Africa to set up new dynasties of hate and extremism.

Apparently these US extremist consider Malta part of their larger African policy and strategic region prime for external meddling.
I wonder if the press in Malta is aware of the US interference in Maltese affairs, this way?
